SubjectImac - El Capitan and Csound 6.06
Hello,

I am working from a few days on a fresh bought Imac, running a 10.11.1 OS
with a 16GB ram.
The surprise is that this machine struggles to play very simple csound
files: while running the file I get in the console the message "WARNING:
Buffer underrun in real-time audio output" and the sound becomes
discontinuous. On my old and less powerful MacbookPro (8 Gb of Ram) I didn't
have this problem, playing the same file and even heavier ones.
Do I need to set the buffer size in the Preferences?
Thank you for your help.

You can try setting them. You can also try changing the output module (also in preferences, and see if helps). Make sure you don't have heavy background processes at the same time (like search indexing). It is worth using the process load utility to check how much processing Csound is using.

Thank you for your reply.
The current settings I'm having are:
Buffer Size (-b) = 1024
HW Buffer Size (-B) = 1024
When you say output module do you mean the Output device?
I can't see any output module in the preferences.

Sorry for the incomplete question: I wanted to ask if, in your opinion, I
should increase or decrease the buffer size.

Decrease -b and either keep -B the same or
increase it. Eg 256 - 1024

In the preferences under output, there is a drop down menu, where you can select portaudio, etc.

Thank you Victor,

I think there was something wrong with the driver of my sound card, because
after a reinstallation of the driver Csound worked perfectly, without any
modification in the Buffer size.
Thanks again.
