| Hi,
I've been using vamp plugins with sonic visualizer and Pierre Couprie's
EAnalysis for some years. Even if the plugins are of varying quality,
there are now a number of plugin packs which seem to be in frequent use
in the music information retrieval community:
http://www.vamp-plugins.org/download.html
They are cross platform and open source, just as we like.
I think this represents interesting musical possibilities and would love
to be able to easily hook up the output from the different analysis
algorithms to synthesis and processing in csound.
So the question is whether the ability to analyze sound with vamp
plugins could be built into csound, a little like VSTs and LADSPA?
I guess that they would probably only process offline, at least when
thinking about how this works in Sonic Visualizer, so maybe not quite
like VSTs, but more like working with LPC or ATS, with an analysis
utility and opcodes to stream the output of the analysis.
Even better, of course, would be to have streaming versions of the
opcodes, but I guess that would imply quite a lot of re-programming, so
maybe not so realistic in the short run.
Best,
Andreas
