update computer or not

Hi all, i'm running Linux Mint on a computer from 2008, together with a Maudio Delta 1010 (not the LT version). I'm thinking about buying some new components like motherboard and CPU. Because the Delta 1010 is a PCI card, i have to act now - soon there will be no more motherboards with PCI. I imagine there could be a significant boost in performance but i am not sure. That is why i would like to hear some opinions from you... 1.The Delta 1010 and Linux is a great combination with great performance using a low-latency kernel, Jack and latency is great (1.3 ms) etc., i would not like to loose that because i have to buy a new soundcard (USB) that has bigger latency. 2. the Intel CPU i have now is dual core 3 GHz. Would a Quad core at 3 GHz give a better performance with Csound? Normally i run CSound with ksmps = 32, and as i understand a better result in performance of amultithreaded Csound is only interesting if ksmps >= 128? (It seems weird that my old computer at 3 GHz from 2008 would have a similar performance than one from 2015 at 3 GHz.) 3. running Blue - would Java be faster? -- View this message in context: http://csound.1045644.n5.nabble.com/update-computer-or-not-tp5745780.html Sent from the Csound - General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. Could it be that the jack is working better on your older computer because the thread priority is given high (nice value) on root access. The annoying things ive noticed with some linux distros is that this becomes more of an annying and complicates hack. Of course csound will run faster with more cores on the cpu. Thats all i can say if its worth anyrhing. It wont make sense using older and presumably slower hardware components should make csound faster, that means that something is suspicious and my first suspect is the jack settings. well I’m using a quite new MacBook Pro which has eight cores out of which I’m using only one (except in programs like Photoshop) and I thought it’s o waste of idle cores Karin

The new machine is built around a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard with an AMD FX-6300 6-core CPU and 16 GB memory. I kept the audio hardware (an M-Audio Delta 66), the video card (an old fanless nVidia GeForce 7600GS) and monitors (2), and the hard disks from the old system. I'll upgrade the video card soon. I'm running Fedora 21 x86_64 with Planet CCRMA additions. I build Csound from git sources, performance is excellent (subjective evaluation, I haven't run any tests on it). These days I'm "using Csound" via Cabbage-made plugins and AVSynthesis, without stress on the hardware.
