Sure, Csound can serve you very well.

Do you know about the Cosmo project - to run Csound in Raspberry pi that is 
put into a kind of effect box. Just copy your csd to RPi and  plug your guitar
into it.

And for putting together nice csound-based plugins Caggage and even more 
CabbageStudio can be extremely useful (also have a look on the examples -  a 
lot is already there and ready to use).

And of course, CsoundQt, the frontend that comes with Csound's installer has a
lot of examples and helps you to do your work.

Csound and its implementations have changed a lot during last years and it is 
not only powerful but also nice to work with.
