What you describe happens for me too on a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 running OS 4.2.2. 
This behavior is independent of the display, which can be changed at any 
point during play. Even given adequate time to rest or catch up, above 300 
or so taps is, as you say, disastrous.

Interestingly enough, on a more recent LG tablet running OS 5.0+, *nothing* 
happens. No sound, no incremental display when tapping. The Csound console 
has no error/warning messages either. Indeed, even the 0 does not appear in 
the initial display box. (Seems to indicate a JavaScript issue?)

On both tablets I was running the current Android Csound6.

Art, can you try on your LG tablet when removing the extra "onload" I forgot
in the body tag?
Maybe its html parser is more finical on that device.
