Yes, I found that interesting as well.
Of course, it's my view that if it could be done
live, it preferably should be. (Live performance has something to offer that a
recording doesn't - like flexibility, nuance and individuality of
interpretation.)

(Live performance has something to offer that a recording > doesn't - like flexibility, nuance and individuality of interpretation.) hmmm ... of course, we are all entitled to enjoy music however and by whatever means we want. that's one of the nice things about music. and i certainly would agree that there is nothing else like a live musical performance. even sometimes with a mediocre player or players, it can still be good, but i digress ... but i would like to speak up for recorded music- something human beings have done even before max matthews was a gleam in his father's eye. i would propose that recorded music can be nuanced, and even individualized. think about sampling, often associated with hip hop music but really one of the basic tools of making electronic music of any type. what is sampling but taking recorded music and putting it in a new context? this creative act of taking source material and modifying it would qualify as individuality of interpretation to me ... once again, let me agree that there are many qualities of live musical performance that are unique; however, i think a listener of recorded music is not denied an artistic experience of flexible nuanced and individualized work simple because the music has been recorded. one tune does not fit all ears. |

Thanks for sharing this inspiring perspective. Let me add a thought about listeners of music. Doesn't they play a big role in what they hear? Well, I like listening to live performances, sometimes also to those of DJs ;-) Best regards, Wolf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Csound-users mailing list Csound-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/csound-users Send bugs reports to https://github.com/csound/csound/issues Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here |

live music offers something unique - it allows listeners to influence musicians. Live listening is a creative process. Cheers, Pablo
