Does anyone have experience with Csound and Rosegarden (or Ardour) running
closely side by side, being synced by the Jack Transport?
And how well does it work?

Csound using the opcode jacktransport, should be the master.

I have not tried it exactly this way but from experience with all kind of other different connections over jack I believe you should not have any problem. That what's jack good for.
