Korg Nanokontrol

Hi, I've been using a Korg Nano-Kontrol with Csound quite a lot and it has always worked fine. Now I'm considering purchasing a second one in order to get more faders and knobs. Does anyone know if Csound recognizes two units of the same kind when used simultaneously? I've heard that this is a problem with other software and I'd like to know before I buy a second one. I know Nano-Kontrol pretty well. You're accessing them using midi so all csound looks for is the incoming midi data. So long as you configure the nanos with 'KORG KONTROL Editor.app' to send out the data on different channels or ctrl numbers then it should work... I'm not sure about using two of them at the same time. There is a midi flag that instructs Csound to access all midi devices but I can't confirm it works. Anyone else? On 1 Jul 2015 10:16, "peiman khosravi" <peimankhosravi@gmail.com> wrote:

Just came to Think of it: I´ve actually got the old Nanokontrol and when I get a new one it will be Nanokontrol 2. Maybe Csound will distinguish between them? /Lars Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2015 11:06:15 +0100 From: rorywalsh@ear.ie To: csound-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Csnd] Korg Nanokontrol I'm not sure about using two of them at the same time. As far as I know, csound does not allow binding instruments per device, only per channel. All midi devices are merged, and if they send to the same channel, they will send to the same instrument. On Wed, Jul 1, 2015 at 3:30 AM Lars Indrek Hansson <lars.indrek.hansson@hotmail.com> wrote:

a thought: maybe with MIDI-to-OSC software you could route the second device to OSC functionality in instruments. That would allow any number of devices (I guess depending on the converter software). ======================== Dr Victor Lazzarini Dean of Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy, Maynooth University, Maynooth, Co Kildare, Ireland Tel: 00 353 7086936 Fax: 00 353 1 7086952 > On 1 Jul 2015, at 14:54, Justin Smith |

Oh, that's a good idea. Just run a different instance of the converter connected to each device if the converter can't differentiate devices... Equally, depending on the application/configuration, two or more Csound instances or processes, each reading from a different device are possible. CsoundQT allows for simultaneous play of more than on instance. At the terminal, multiple processes can be run. ======================== Dr Victor Lazzarini Dean of Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy, Maynooth University, Maynooth, Co Kildare, Ireland Tel: 00 353 7086936 Fax: 00 353 1 7086952 > On 1 Jul 2015, at 15:37, Justin Smith |

Wit the the current piece I'm working on I use three faders per instrument, a total of nine midi channels. Thus it would be possible to use two Nonokontrols simultaneuosly, right? But sometime in the future I might need considerably more midi channels. Where do I get a midi-to-osc software? /Lars > From: Victor.Lazzarini@nuim.ie > Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2015 15:49:03 +0200 > To: csound-users@lists.sourceforge.net > Subject: Re: [Csnd] Korg Nanokontrol > > Equally, depending on the application/configuration, two or more Csound instances or processes, each reading from a different device are > possible. If all else fails, midi-to-osc would be a pretty easy csound csd to write. On Wed, Jul 1, 2015 at 8:51 AM Lars Indrek Hansson <lars.indrek.hansson@hotmail.com> wrote:

I'd really recommend one of these. It has 16 knobs with LED and three or four layers. Each layer can control different parameters and the positions are internally remembered as you change layers. The knobs feel good too. On 1 July 2015 at 16:49, Lars Indrek Hansson <lars.indrek.hansson@hotmail.com> wrote:

Thanks, for the advice. Think I´ll buy a Nanokontrol to start with but Midi-fighter-twister seems to be a nice gadget although a bit pricier than the Nanokontrol. Just noticed that there is Midi-3D as well. Talking about controllers. Has anyone tried the Softstep 2? /Lars Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2015 17:19:34 +0100 From: peimankhosravi@gmail.com To: csound-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Csnd] Korg Nanokontrol I meant one of these! http://www.auspiciousmusic.com/news/midi-fighter-twister-product-review On 1 July 2015 at 17:19, peiman khosravi <peimankhosravi@gmail.com> wrote:

I have the original softstep and find the relative lack of responsiveness frustrating. I prefer a switch where I can physically feel whether it's engaged or not (not to mention the more complex touch-sensetive stuff it does). When trying to use it I was preoccupied with whether my input events had been registered or not, distracting me from my performance. Hmm, doesn't sound as a recommendation. So you don't use it at all then? Maybe the best thing would be making something of your own using a Doepfer Pocket Electronic or something. /Lars From: noisesmith@gmail.com Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2015 20:45:52 +0000 To: csound-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Csnd] Korg Nanokontrol I have the original softstep and find the relative lack of responsiveness frustrating. I have the 12step and have the same experience as Justin, even though I sort of got used to it now. What still sells it for me, is the ultra compact size which comes in handy since I have a bazillion pedals. You could make a custom quite light weight solution combining these two: http://www.audiofront.net/MIDIExpression.php and http://www.roland.com/products/dp-2/ I just bought the Quattro and it works very nice. The only drawback is the weak mini-USB connection which in my experience can break quite easily. On 1 July 2015 at 23:44, Lars Indrek Hansson <lars.indrek.hansson@hotmail.com> wrote:
