How much it would be difficult to create a thunder with CSound?

I can imagine its amplitude variation, maybe how can I try to apply filters to cut away high frequencies, but how to create the wave shape?

Do you know some code already written for this?

Thanks.

Thorin and Peter: thanks for the examples. I ran the Csound one and it's not bad at all. With a couple of longer delays to suggest a space and perhaps some limiting/clipping on the output signal, this will be even better!

Hi, if you have the code in .CSD, could you please send it to me privately?
Thanks.

no, guys, really, did you know about this tutorial?:

http://www.obiwannabe.co.uk/tutorials/html/tutorial_thunder.html

:-)

BTW, i bought the book a couple of years ago (Designing Sound, by Andy
Farnell). it seems to be very interesting and useful, but not being a Pd
user i just browsed through it. one of those "one of these days" projects
of mine is trying to translate all the code to csound. i guess one would
learn a lot about sound design, and it would also be a way to overcome my
deep, instinctive and irrational dislike of Pd...

i just picked the Farnell book out of our library. i'm having the same
notion of translating the Pd to csound. i have tried to model natural
sounds before, water in particular. thinking its time to take a fresh
look at that project again. looking forward to reading it.

It's easy to "build" a CSD file from separate ORC and SCO files:

; paste content of ORC file here

; paste content of SCO file here

this I've additionally attached as a file.

hi luis -

i could not have put this better:

"one of those 'one of these days' projects of mine is trying to
translate all the code to csound."

probably we were not the only two thinking this while reading andy's
excellent book ... perhaps we can make it one day earlier as one of
these days? or exploit our students to work on this?

but for the time by then i have a *very* nice link for you, luis:

http://www.obiwannabe.co.uk/tutorials/html/tutorial_thunder.html

enjoy -

well, maybe we can count kelly in, that's already three of us. anyone
else?

i think this project is perfect for a joint effort. what do you think? and
how many of us would be willing to participate? right now i just need to
get pd up and running on my gentoo linux box, which has proven to be
rather difficult...

I can do a few. I've been meaning to find an excuse to by Andy Farnell's book, and this seems like a rewarding challenge.

Does the book use pd-extended or pd-vanilla? PD vanilla has always been pretty trivial to compile from source on my various linux machines. PD-extended... not so much ;) I usually prefer compiling pd-vanilla, and then building each external manually as I need them.

we only need someone to coordinate our efforts. given his innate abilities

i think that we should set up a web site to share our results. do you think
that would mean infringing some copyrights or whatever?

mmm... so far i haven't been so lucky, either with -vanilla or -extended.

but what do the others think? kelly and paul said they are also interested

another question is: does the discussions about this project belong to the
