I assume 'C.H.I.P.'s open source operating system' is some flavour of
Linux, in which case I'm sure Csound will be able to run on it. But
current smartphones come with more processing power than these little
boards right? Then again, they cost a lot more that $9.

It says it's Debian based. So there should be Csound out of the box. These guys managed to undercut the RPi.

512MB of RAM and a 1ghz processor (probably AMD)... comparable to a Pi. 

The pocketCHIP interface is a nice touch. The Pi doesn't have anything quite like it out-of-the-box, AFAIK.
