There's a really good book on the subject of wavelets by
a math professor named Barbara Hubbard. And some interesting
work by members of the Audio Engineering Society (AES),
check out the AES site at www.aes.org and goto 'search'.
A general google should yield some interesting results.

I did some work with wavelets last year. I also found Ian Kaplan's work,
http://www.bearcave.com/misl/misl_tech/wavelets/index.html, pretty useful.

My results using wavelets for audio processing was mixed. I had extremely good
results with spectral morphing, but trying to do time-stretching or
frequency-shifting introduced a lot of noise. I've heard that using a Dual-Tree
Complex Wavelet Transform will mitigate most of those artifacts; Jeff Livingston
wrote a report, http://users.ece.utexas.edu/~bevans/students/ms/jeff_livingston/,
about this approach. Most of my work was based on using partial sections of a
wavelet packet transform to achieve greater frequency resolution than provided by the
DWT. I haven't had a chance yet to combine it with Jeff's work, but I expect it
would yield good results.

If anyone else has done work using wavelets or chirplets for audio transformation,
could you please contact me?
Thanks,
John
