Sonar and csound

I don't know if anyone can help me with this; I do know that the
following is pretty vague; here goes:

I'm using Sonar (v4) to control Csound (xp, 5.06) via midi-yoke. I
set a separate track to control each instrument. This used to work
okay (rather than very solid, which it never did). But now I have
this problem where the first instrument in an orchestra often doesn't
play.

Sometimes I can get it to work again by changing the csound command
line to start on a different midi-yoke channel--but not always--or
controlling csound with midi-ox first and then opening sonar. But I
shouldn't have to do that as Sonar works well with midi-yoke.

Also, I can get it to work fine using other software as the
controller (Master Tracks Pro, FL Studio).

This is no longer true, all midi software seems to be behaving the
same. I'm so confused right now, I'm going to have to poke around
tonight just so that I can better describe the problem.
