This would be a very useful feature to implement in Csound5.  Especially for the OLPC system.

CsoundAV has a feature where whenever a file path in double inverted commas, say in a diskin or in a function table, is replaced with the text "BROWSE_FILE", a browser window opens when CsoundAV is run the user is prompted to browse for an appropriate file. This feature hasn't yet been implemented in Csound5. Is this what you are asking for?

Thanks Matt.   That's definately good to know, but I'm actually trying to
make something for the one laptop per child program, so MacCsound is out
unfortunately.

MacCsound's text box has this ability -- drag a file from the finder onto
a text box, the full path appears.  you get the filepath from the invalue
opcode:

Sfile invalue "mysoundfilepath"
asig soundin Sfile

you could also do something at k-rate like:

event "f", -iTableNum, 0

although i don't know if memory is freed or not..
