Hi ! Some days ago, I wrote a message about surround. I asked if a 5.1 program player existed on either mac or PC. and about a valid 5.1 format. As I didn't get any answer, I said to myself : " Is this question is really to stupid or obvious to be asked, or does really anybody knows about a programm like that or maybe it is silply impossible yet ?" Is this question is obvious then I am don't know the answer but if someone have any information even little one could somebody help me please. It is for a project of 5.1 internet website. Thanks a lot Nicolas ___________________________________________________________________________ Faites de Yahoo! votre page d'accueil sur le web pour retrouver directement vos services préférés : vérifiez vos nouveaux mails, lancez vos recherches et suivez l'actualité en temps réel. No responses generally mean that no one has any relevant information for you. Give it a while as some people may be away from their computers, others only seem to check their mail now and then. No replies never ever implies that the question was too silly to bother answering. While we're on the subject I'm still waiting for a reply to my OSC question?? Anyone out there using OSC with csound in windows? Rory. Drweski nicolas wrote: > Hi ! > > Some days ago, I wrote a message about surround. There is a standard 5.1 format for WAVE, via the not-so-new-now format WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE; files in this format will be playable on Media player, if necessary mixed down to the available hardware. With Csound5 now using libsndfile, such formats should be supported, though interactive means to request a specific channel configuration from Csound are, as far as I know, not implemented. The likely best is that such streams are rendered in a speaker-position-agnostic way, to the multi-channel device, with channels simply in order 1,2,3,4... On the Mac, AIFF files can be multi-channel, but have no means of defining speaker configurations. This is remedied in the new CAF format which supports huge files (>4GB), and introduced formally in Tiger. I believe Eric added support for CAF to libsndfile, but it may be a while before we have non-trivial examples to play with, especially on the PC, though CAF is supported by Quicktime, and one presumes therefore is supported on Windows. In any case, Mac applications (incl Quicktime) understand WAEVFORMATEXTENSIBLE, and will render them without difficulty. Given Macs will soon be only macIntel, the need for AIFF will evaporate other than for sentimental reasons. :-) Richard Dobson |

I think he OSC questions should be revoiced as : "Are liblo & OSC opcodes included in the csound windows distributions?" My guess is no, they aren't.
