JOB TITLE: Lecturer in Music & Sonic Arts
SCHOOL/DEPT: School of Music & Sonic Arts
GRADE: A/B for lecturer post
JOB PURPOSE: To produce high quality practice-based and theoretical
research in the area of contemporary music. The candidate is expected to
have a strong track record in practice-based research in the creative
arts and is expected to undertake teaching in the area of research at
the School of Music and Sonic Arts. Relevant fields of expertise
include, but are not restricted to, performance practice in 21 st
Century music, improvised music, contemporary Jazz, composition.
Candidates are expected to be active practitioners and have a track
record in research that demonstrates the dynamic relationship between
scholarship and practice.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. To produce high quality practice-based and theoretical research in
the area of research expertise.
2. To undertake teaching in the area of research expertise and in other
areas as directed by the Head of School.
3. To supervise research students as directed by the Head of School.
4. To undertake administrative duties as directed by the Head of School.
5. To enhance performance activities within the School.
6. To undertake any other reasonable duties within the general ambit of
the post and the competence of the postholder.
The School of Music and Sonic Arts at Queen’s University, Belfast, is
one of the largest groups of its kind in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Based on the expertise of seventeen fulltime academics within the School
and its associated research facility, the Sonic Arts Research Centre
(SARC), research and postgraduate teaching is a major driving force.
