Every time I post a message to this list I get an AntiSpam mail sent to
me from petsupermarket@uol.com.br asking for a verification that I sent
them mail? Does anyone know what that's about and how I can stop it?

Hi Panos:

Your own mail always asks me for a verification that I received it.
Perhaps you have a setting you can turn off ?

We have been trying to identify the culprit for ages. Some time back I
sent mail to everyone on teh list, but I did not get the problem. I also
get this CR mail, but as it is now in 100%HTML it gets junked by my
system, and now sauron4.uol.com.br [200.221.4.97] has made it into my
reject list.

There are no members from uol.com.br and I have also tried to contact all
Brasilian members, who all seem innocent.

Hi Dave

I am absolutely certain that there is no such system as far as my email
account is concerned, because i am the administrator of the mail server
( i own the internet company ). So, the problem lies elsewhere.

It seems that your mail is set up to ask for a receipt upon delivery of
messages sent. It's normally very easy to turn off, if of course you
want to.

Might I also add that I can't see how that would cause any problems
whatsoever except for users having to click cancel all the time to read
your messages.

It has nothing to do with the server, it is an option the mail program
can offer. For example, in Thunderbird/Mozilla, in the Options menu of
the message composition window, there is a menu option "Receipt", which
needs to be un-checked. Other mail software will presumably offer
something similar.

Hi Panos:

Yet every message I open from you (including the one you just sent)
tells me that the sender of the message wants to be notified that I've
received the message. I always choose Cancel, and the message proceeds
to open, so it's not a problem except that I have to respond to that
query every time for your messages.

What mailer are you using ?

Is anyone else seeing this when they select Panos' messages ? Btw, I'm
using the Mozilla mail client for Linux, if it matters.

No fear, Panos, I don't take it personally. :-)

Best,

dp

What about the Yahoo group that mirrors this list? There are over 120
members of that group who receive a copy of every email sent to the Bath
address, I think.

I tried joining that group to get a member list but it is not available.
Who is the administrator for the Yahoo group?

Sorry Panos, I don't think you are right.

All of your emails to this list contain this in the header:

    Disposition-Notification-To: Panos Katergiathis

whihch according to this:

    http://mail.gnome.org/archives/balsa-list/2000-December/msg00125.html

means that you are asking for a return receipt message.

I run a couple of lists myself and my mailing list software (Ecartis)
allows certain header fields to be filtered out. I am about to add
"Disposition-Notification-To" to the list of things I filter out :-).

Hi Erik

This is not the problem that was originally discussed under this thread.
The problem you are refering to, had to do with me asking a 'receipt'
for recipients that have read the message: i have corrected this
situation as you can see from this message that you are reading right
now. This particular setting was a global setting in Thunderbird which i
had to override for this particular account. Consider this, solved!

However, that was not the original discussion. The original issue was
the strange messages me (and others) are getting when we post anything
to the list. These messages come from petsupermarket@uol.com.br amd
require that we click on something (in order for our message to
proceed). This issue has nothing to do with me, obviously.

Best Regards

Panos
