Hi Anthony

>PLEASE, PLEASE do not post executables (or any other large files) to this
list (or any other public mailing list) !!

Okay Anthony. I will comply. Thank you.

>And do not resend them again half-an-hour later when they do not appear in
your inbox.

The reason I sent it the second time was because the first email was kicked
back to me. If you look at both attachments they are different. The first
one I sent got kicked back to me at 10:09 (perhaps becasue it was too
large). As a result, I sent it again without the winsound64 attachment.
Later, the original email appeared in my inbox anyway. The time received
was 10:19.

The time between the initial kickback and the first email received is when I
sent the second email not knowing the first email was going to arrive
successfully especially after receiving the "kickback email warning" saying
my first mail delivery failed.

I'm sorry about the confusion and attachments.

Thank You
Wally Lepore

That's OK. It is an understandable mistake :)

Sorry if it seemed like I was "jumping on you" about the attachments. But
there have been a LOT of large attachments sent to this list recently and I
wanted to point out to everyone that they should carefully consider the
necessity of sending large files before hitting "send".

Attachments are NOT inappropriate in general for the Csound list. We expect
that people will post their Csound orchestras and scores and other
reasonably-sized files needed to receive help or that will be of general
interest to everyone. But for large files like audio and exectuables, it
would be better to post a link to a Web of FTP server where the files can be
obtained. If that is not possible, offer to send the files privately over
email to anyone who is interested.

My personal suggestion is that files above 100K should not be sent to this
list. Other people may have other ideas about what is "reasonable".

The reasons for limiting this activity include:

1. Many people still on slower connections.
2. In some parts of the world, people may have to PAY per kilobyte
of email that they receive.
3. Binary files and attachments look like "garbage" in very old "text-only"
email clients.
4. Attachments may make it difficult to read email using alternative means.
This also why HTML is inappropriate for a list like this. People with
disabilities may be using text-to-speech or other means to read your
messages and HTML fouls this up.

No offense to Wally or anyone else intended!

Thanks.

Anthony
