There's been a lot of discussion recently about how canonical Csound5
doesn't have a GUI. I want to chime in here.

That does not bother me at all. I don't need a GUI; what I need is a graphic
editor for my Csound .csd's - one that easily runs my work (with csound.exe)
when I'm ready to listen. After all, all Csound.exe does is let you hear
what you've composed. What you may want by way of a GUI, OTOH, is a
*composing environment*.

There are quite a few of these out there, with links at csounds.com; they
are called "front ends." I personally use CsEdit.

Performance GUI's like CsoundAV's do indeed have some nice convenience
features (such as setting latency, environment variables, .wav filenames,
etc.) but in most cases are quite unnecessary.

Rather, find yourself a comfortable (for you and your way of composing)
"front end."

Just my opinion.
