Perhaps the manual is not the place for such explanations;
it can have (and I think it has), though, references to
where
you can find information about it. I think Dodge & Jerse is
mentioned somewhere. That book is probably a good general
intro for musicians and less technically-minded users.

And of course, there is the Csound book.
