[Cs-dev] Csound5.0rc2 for Linux

Subject[Cs-dev] Csound5.0rc2 for Linux
The binary tar.gz files for rc2 are now available at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound. Some bug fixes, some clutter
removed. Also this version requires libsndfile 1.0.13pre3 or later,
which is included as adynmaic library in the package.

Other versions will appear soon.

btw there has been remarkably little comment on rc1; perhaps no one is
trying to use it.

I'm not using the release candidates, I'm just pulling the whole
thing out of CVS which I'm guessing is pretty close to your
release candidates.

One thing I did notice is that I was seeing :

    WARNING: /usr/local/lib/csound/plugins/libosc.so: undefined symbol:
        lo_server_thread_del_method
WARNING: could not open library '/usr/local/lib/csound/plugins/libosc.so'

That was with liblo version 0.18 which is the standard in the Breezy Badger
release of Ubuntu Linux. Upgrading that library to 0.22 made the problem
disappear.

Maybe a test could be added to SContruct to make sure the OSC library has
the lo_server_thread_del_method function.

I can test them if you like with some large ensembles and the api host,
but I'm not clear how to use these. Are they different from doing a
fresh cvs checkout right now? I am on gentoo, so I generally just
download from source or use ebuilds.

Thanks
Iain

hey barry.

i am running 10.4.3 too and it works for me..
i had a problem at first it ran almost all the way and then threw an error
"try again"

turns out i was trying to install on a disk other than the system disk.

[ Victor: can you turn on the system-only flag when making the installer? ]

could that be your case too? or maybe you are not installing from an admin
account?

Unfortunately, I don't get far enough to pick a disk. As soon as I try
and open the package, I get "Open Failed: Couldn't open
'CsoundLib.pkg'." I've tried downloading it several times.

This is definitely an admin account.

SubjectRe: Csound5.0rc1 for Mac - resolved
I figured it out, but I'm not sure what the issue was. I originally
downloaded the archive from several mirrors using firefox. This archive
unpacked, but only contained Csoundlib.pkg, which I didn't realize was a
problem until I tried the download in safari, and realized there were
several more packages.

I'm not sure what the problem was, cache issues maybe?

go figure.

Hi John:

I'd like to test the new packages, but I have a few questions:

How do I clear the CVS installation I already have on my machine ?

Will my older installed version of libsndfile interfere with the one
included with the rc package ?

Is the rc package essentially different from current CVS sources ?

What if I wanted to install from the console prompt instead of from X ?

I'm installing on a PII 366, should I use the float or doubles package ?

Any and all help is appreciated. TIA!

Best,

dp

The Istvan package is an rpm. The one that concerns me is aimed
largely at non-specialists, [possibly without root access. There is
an installation utility that is supposed to be self-explanatory. In
that way it is very different to a CVS checkout. No sources for a start.

No, as you can chose not to install it

No; the binaries were built from the CVS

I did not write a script for that (well actually I did and deleted
it). I will look at a text version of the installed

If realtime is important to you, float. Otherwise double -- well that
is my opinion. I am using doubles for my own work now.
