cabel

Date2005-12-19 15:25
FromVictor Lazzarini
Subjectcabel
I have played (a little) with Cabel and it seems easy and intuitive,
with a nice interface. It ran straight out of the box on windows,
which has a lot to be said of.

I'd suggest some simple additions that would be very nice: either
a 'constant' module, where you can type values, or the possibility
to write the values of parameters in a module.

Anyway, well done again

I think some people have tried to help out by provided the following link:

I don't know how many people on this list actually use Cabel so I'm
not sure you'll be able to find much support. Does Cabel have its own
mailing list?

Cabel instructions do seem rather old -- 2005 and the last news is May
2006 and binary March 2006. No mailing list; little activity on forums.
Like Rory I suspect no one is using it now.

I would REALLY like to see something like Cabel in CsoundQt....

Subject[Csnd] Re: cabel
Hello Mr. Shawn56,
i have ubuntu 10.04 32 bit, python 2.6 and WxPython (this are the only
requirement,
i think).
In the Cabel folder i run the command python cabel.py and the main Cabel
window start.
Should be easy also in other OS, i think.

Hope helpful,
ciao,
francesco.

oh? I definitely can use ASIO, but I normally build Csound here so did not check the 5.13 binary distribution.
I would find it very strange if ASIO was not supported (?).

It seems WASAPI is supported in portaudio v19, but I'm unsure if I currently take advantage of it.
Maybe Michael (Gogins) or Rory would know more details about this?
How would I know if I use WASAPI? Should there be info listed next to the device name in the console perhaps?

I think that You need the last update. You can download here
http://cabel.cvs.sourceforge.net/cabel/
using the download in the bottom.
This is the latest version with updates by Mr. Gogins (i think).
The version 0.85 is old and i don't think is working.

Hope useful,
ciao,
francesco.

That is correct, and I will see if it still works today and let you

from the latest Windows installer with all bells and whistles.

Hello Mr. Gogins,
here on Ubuntu 10.04, 32 bit, Cabel is working ok, at least with a
trivial use.
If You can i have a wish: the preference windows do not have a
scrollbar, so i need to manually resize this window to see all options,
especially Csound command line options; default are set to mme audio and
midi, that is only for Windows.
But it's only a really stupid thing ...

ciao,
francesco.

I can confirm that Cabel runs on my laptop at home (Windows 7 Premium
Home edition, Csound 14.2 all bells and whistles, Python 2.7, wxPython
2.8, Cabel refreshed from CVS.

Things to watch out for:

o 32 bit Python and wxPython, not 64 bit (because Csound is 32 bit
architecture on Windows, both the "32 bit" and the "64 bit" versions,
these refer to sample size not processor architecture).

o Python and Csound both have to be in the executable path. See if you
can run the wxPython demo program and also Csound just by clicking on
them. If you can do that you SHOULD be able to run Cabel.py just by
clicking on it.

No, I do not have plans for much more maintenance of Cabel. I am
waiting for someone to make something better. Rory Walsh may be
working on something better, as part of Cabbage.

If you still have problems, send me the details (copy of error messages, etc.).

Hope this helps,
Mike
