People say 32 bit is faster. I found that in a very few cases, I could easily hear differences between 32 bit and 64 bit renderings. I do not think these rare differences would be significant in live performance. It takes some work to be able to find and hear the differences!

I think in live performance, speed is important for most people, so unless sound quality is absolutely critical for you, I would use 32 bit samples.

Hope this helps,
Mike

For Csound5 in Windows, what are the pros and cons of 32-bit vs. 64-bit
builds for purposes live performance?

TIA -

I concure with Michael on both counts. Mind you, I perform in night
clubs with mismatched sound systems turned up way too loud, so it could
be different in a pristine hall with properly balanced amplification. ;)

On Saturday during a performance, I made the mistake of using a double
precision compiled Csound5 (csoundapi~) *WITHOUT* turning the
processing priority of Csound all the way up while having the computer
simultaneously output to dual-DVI video. Needless to say there were
dropouts in the audio thread that could've been avoided ...

Really there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference IMO in 32/64
bit precision samples. Because of discussion on this list I've tried
several experiments to this end and really it seems like if the music
is good, it will still sound good regardless of if it's rendered at
single or double precision :)
