[OT] Linux references at csounds.com

Subject[OT] Linux references at csounds.com
Greetings:

Sorry for the OT post, but it's at least slightly relevant to the
Csound community.

The Linux resources referenced at csounds.com are woefully outdated.
Alas, I simply do not have the time or energy to take on the task of
updating that material, so perhaps there's a Linux Csounder who could
volunteer for it ?

Also, as Dr. B and some others know, I wrote an extensive set of
tutorials for Cs5, fairly non-specific wrt platform. Again, I don't have
the time to set up another Web site, and that material has languished in
an ftp repository at csounds.com. It's not doing anyone any good there,
so I'll offer it all to anyone who wants to continue it and hopefully
put it somewhere so everyone can access it. Interested persons can
contact me directly.

Best,

dp

Of course it is the intent to keep users as up to date as possible!
Unfortunately, in the last year cSounds.com has been hacked twice by
skript kiddies exploiting some of the known bugs in phpBB2. That may be
why some of the links are now broken; from the process of restoring the
server some data was lost (notably some UDOs and what we're just now
noticing is information such as this)

I would encourage you to send any links or files you feel are worth
sharing to me so I can add them to cSounds.com!

If you are need of a solution to send a large amount of files
efficiently I recommend http://www.yousendit.com/ to send up to 1 GB
attachments in a single email (hosted on a non-specfied server for 7
days)

I'm trying to get these grad school applications finished along with
final exams but I can assure you I will update any and all information
in the coming weeks! Especially those tutorials, etc.

Hi David:

I just wanted to clarify that my files "languishing" at csounds.com
has nothing to do with the efforts of Dr B & Crew. Rick's always been
supportive and generous about getting a better Linux representation
there, but I've been too distracted by other obligations to get the job
done. Please understand that I meant no poor reflection on the great
work done at csounds.com. Hopefully we can motivate some of the other
Linux Csounders to help out with the needed updates with more
committment than I can generate at this time.

"The life so short, the craft so long to learn." Ain't it the truth...

Best,
