Noise in Test.wav

I just switched from a desktop to a laptop, and my CSound renders are
including a nasty "ticking" sound. I've Googled the subject and I'm
still unsure whether it's avoidable, or whether I need to invest in some
kind of external sound card. Ideas?

Sounds like dropouts, perhaps your laptop is not coping with
it. Try file output. If the ticking disappears, then that's your
answer. If so, try increasing the buffer size.

Yes.

Rendering to disk first.

This happens no matter what the orc and sco files contain. I've tried
it with personally created sounds as well as some of the samples on the
CD-ROM's.

Does it happen only with csound-generated soundfiles or
did you check other soundfiles?

Only CSound files. Other files, such as mp3s and mods, sound clear as a
bell.
