| I think it might depend on the actual soundcard; coreaudio
supports the multiple opening of devices, but that depends
on the actual coreaudio driver. This is why portaudio
was not working originally in OSX, because it was trying
to open the device twice and so it failed. So far I have
not come across any driver that supports multiple opening
of soundcards.
