[Csnd] Peavey Studiomix and Real-Time Csound

Subject[Csnd] Peavey Studiomix and Real-Time Csound
For anyone with a Peavey Studiomix and maybe wanting to use it as a
real-time (standard MIDI) controller with Csound, I've put together an
article called:

The Peavey Studiomix as a Standard MIDI Controller for Csound (and Other
Software)

It applies to Windows systems only, and uses the facilities of MIDIOx and
MIDIYoke. Basically, it converts many of the Studiomix NRPNs into standard
CC and note on/note off information.

The article, along with the MIDIOx Studiomix.oxm/.txm files, are found at
the new top-of-list position here:

Incidentally, the Studiomix, though built like a tank, is not nearly as
useful for live-performance Csound MIDI as is the (equally sturdy - and
venerable) Peavey 1600[x]. It's truly remarkable to me that, after all this
time, the 1600 is still one of the best control surfaces out there - and
there are indeed many of them (I've got 15 or so).

SubjectRe: [Csnd] Peavey Studiomix and Real-Time Csound
I have both a Yamaha 01v mixer, and a M-Audio keystation pro 88.

The keystation has faders, buttons, and knobs but they cant be automated.
The 01V has automatable controls.

I can use the 01V for mix, or for automating another module like CSound.

I have often wondered if people have an interest in some kind of
standardization of midi interfaces to make it easier to assign midi controls
for various devices. Most of my equipment uses CC messages easily, but this
may not be universally true.

Since CSound 5 is in dev, now would be the time to discuss it. I use macros
myself to assign cc messages to standardized controls.

I think if such a standard is created it could also be used to do windows
based controls so everyone can enjoy some level of performance.

It can be done with a K rate variable set, using ZAK, but I think midi is
enough of a standard thing that it deserves it's own control set. We dont
want to manage midi per instance, it needs to be single instrument instance
doing midi communicating to all instances at K rate. It could even be
optionally buffered to ramp on change, say moving 1 value toward the new
setting per k cycle.
