“Those who know Fernando Grillo as the innovator who has given value to the sound of the contemporary double bass may be surprised that he has turned to baroque musical language in his Suite No. 1 for double bass. 

And yet, behind Grillo’s work we find the same aesthetic that is the basis of all the works he has composed: the idea of a music which is truly original and born out of a profound study of the specific sound and technical possibilities of the instrument. 

Suite No. 1 offers the scholar, as well as the concert performer, a highly demanding alternative, both from a musical and technical point of view, to the numerous adaptations to which double bass players must often turn for lack of original literature. 

Fernando Grillo has in mind to compose four more suites in different styles to follow the first.”
