| I echo both Jake's response and also a previous poster who
suggested a 'portable apps' type of package, possibly similar to
what Art Hunkins mentioned. For my own part, I don't need
real-time capability, but I do like using MIDI files to play my
orcs, at least as a basis for experimenting.
Csound is so huge, with so many different synthesis methods
available, and so very many opcodes that have been added for
very specific reasons, that it is almost overwhelming. I'd like
to see a cut down version that includes all the materials needed
to use the Csound book and catalog examples, that is free from
the bugs that were eliminated as that basic early version
developed to what we have now.
It should be able to compile orc/sco pairs, and also csd's. For
me, the only gui I need is one like is currently available with
csound 5.xx, although I do use winxound.net, too. Graphical
table editors are nice, but unnecessary, as are widgets and
interfaces like Lettuce, etc. Besides, I kinda like the idea of
modular systems, that I can pick and choose from, rather than
monolithic 'does it all' systems.
I'd really like to have the time to learn how to 'roll my own'
set-up, but unfortunately that's beyond me at this point. So,
to reiterate, a cut-down, basic, portable system would be good
for me. (Of course, I'll keep using the big install too.)
Thank you
