Hello All, just a first draft of a piece i'm working on. This is a micro homage to Csound mailing list ... Mail author and subject will be translated to waveform while text will be a score. For now just a joke but who knows ... in a future ... Who will be so brave to listen until the end? Me no :) https://youtu.be/-GLbcbTyov8 Thanks, ciao, francesco Csound mailing list Csound@listserv.heanet.ie https://listserv.heanet.ie/cgi-bin/wa?A0=CSOUND Send bugs reports to https://github.com/csound/csound/issues Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here |

I'm afraid I'm much too mainstream to really enjoy it as music, but with your description I am intrigued by it, as a riddle. A conundrum to solve, a language to learn. Judging by the frequencies of different pitches, I suppse, one could try to reconstruct the mails, if you don't insert randomness in the translation from text to score. :) On the waveforms: there was one that I liked and that is very similar to something I'd like to do. How do you create them? With additive synthesis? Best wishes and thanks for sharing such good food for thought, :) Jeanette -- * Website: http://juliencoder.de - for summer is a state of sound * Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMS4rfGrTwz8W7jhC1Jnv7g * SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/jeanette_c * Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeanette_c_s * Audiobombs: https://www.audiobombs.com/users/jeanette_c * GitHub: https://github.com/jeanette-c There's just a thing or two I'd like you to know <3 (Britney Spears) Csound mailing list Csound@listserv.heanet.ie https://listserv.heanet.ie/cgi-bin/wa?A0=CSOUND Send bugs reports to https://github.com/csound/csound/issues Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here |

Very good. I agree with all the points being meant. Apart from something Jaochim says half way through his post... 😂 On Wed, 18 Mar 2020 at 10:17, Hlöðver Sigurðsson <hlolli@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Jeanette, thanks. And thanks to talking about music for this piece, like you i really do not enjoy the result as music :) Well i'm a classical trained musician, and i mean really classical. Anyway seriously speaking the idea was to create a new language and i mean really with signs as alphabet etc. But my knowledge is too much trivial for this task. But in a future, who knows. About waveforms: yes is additive synthesis using two oscillator reading author name and subject. It is simply a conversion of character to numeric value. This value is obtained from a custom although trivial table (something like a=1, b=2, etc.) If you want i attached the csd with necessary files. Hoping to have done it right. Thanks, ciao, francesco. Thanks All. I need to agree with Rory about Joachim, he is too much serious! :)) Anyway You all are lucky people, you win a new production using your email. Well i am a bit in difficulty with hlolli ... try to read/write his real name in ASCII.
thanks, ciao, francesco.
