I think I managed to get something quick and dirty going with 
http://www.cs.unc.edu/Research/assist/doc/pmidi/ but tbh it was a long time 
ago, so I can't recall how realtime was realtime. Also I think I had to do a 
bit of trickery, basically calling the sequence function every time 
something needed to change. It's probably not the right way forward, but it 
served what I was trying to do at the time.
