Subject[Csnd] csoundvst under linux - now it builds
Hi

A while back I struggled to get csound vst to compile under linux. I
just tried again (a fresh cvs) and it build just like that. Fantastic!

I copied the libcsound.so into my ~/.vst folder but that aparently
wasn't correct, at least my host (linux native renoise) doesn't list any
csound vst. What am I doing wrong?

I'm sorry, I don't know what's wrong. I haven't tried to actually use
CsoundVST on Linux, although I do _build_ it on Linux.

Possibilities:

the plugin_main function (or whatever it is supposed to be exactly
named) is not named and exported properly, use nm on working plugins
and compare with CsoundVST.

CsoundVST needs other libraries, use ldd on CsoundVST to ensure that
all other shared libraries used by CsoundVST are found.

If the above are found not to be factors, see if CsoundVST is
crashing, if so example the core dump and see where it's crashing. If
it is crashing, possibly code alignment is the cause, more likely it
is some other plugin loaded by Csound.

Hope this helps,
Mike

P.S. if you can tell me a program that will load and use VST plugins
on Linux without needing FST, I would appreciate that.

Regards,
Mike

Csound should be able to do it if you build the vst4cs opcodes on
linux =). I think it worked the last time I tried. Didn't try to load
Csound inside itself, though....

You can also use Jost. It will load linux vsts.

Cheers,
Andrés

Thanks, I will look into Jost.

But what I would really like is a tracker or sequencer that runs on
Linux and that can load native Linux VST plugins... can LMMS do that?

Regards,
Mike

Try my host, renoise. It's a free download, although rendering to wave
(and few other features) are limited to the registered ($50) version.

It's very stable, and very fast.

I lied, stupid me. It didn't build at all, boost and friends were
missing, will dig in and ask more when I need it...
