It would be a while before hard drives became ubiquitous
like they are today. The density capabilities are now better.
There were hard drives back then, just not that big a capacity
And yes, about ten years before the movie "Tron", the year
Walter Carlos scored the movie "A Clockwork Orange", Walter
became Wendy Carlos. Check out Wikipedia (with its links).
There was a pretty good interview in Keyboard Magazine a
few years back.

woah, that was news to me, lol.
I'm not as "experienced" as some here, but I do remember booting dos
from a 5.25" floppy as child, then having to switch floppies for
whichever program was desired ...had no idea what a "hard" drive was
back then =)
