Dear community, I have had a goord audio-interface, the edirol fa66. Unfortunately, it is damaged. Can You recommand an USB (or firewire) interface that works well with ubuntu? It is important, that it has a low latency (because I use it with midi) and off course sound quality. 4 channel output should be enough, I think. |

Hello Stefan,
I have Focusrite Saffire LE - 4in, 8 out (+2 with spdif), midi in and out, works very well with linux (I use opensuse), latency is fine.
The only thing (but I think it is mostly so), it needs that your firewire card or adapter has texas instruments chipset. My laptop uses something else and it did communicate well with the Saffire. I got a PCMCIA firewire adapter with TI chipset and all runs very well.

Dear Tarmo, thanks for Your reply. How can I find out, that I do have a texas-instruments chipset? Can Your card also be used with USB, not with firewire? The machine that I'm using at the moment has firewire, but it was not easy to find one. If there would be a card that works with USB (and has a good latency) I hope, that I could find more easyly a good computer too, in the future 2012/5/5 Tarmo Johannes <tarmo@otsakool.edu.ee>

>How can I find out, that I do have a texas-instruments chipset?
in the terminal lspci | grep 1394
