Synthesis based on evolutionary algorithms.
This description is fairly short and abstract and/or I'm not smart
enough to understand it. Apparently it has been implemented in Pd,
though I don't know where to find the patches or any sound created
with it.

Found this via Google:- see the reference to PD patches and sounds at
the bottom:

http://www.nics.unicamp.br/~fornari

And a paper here:

www.nics.unicamp.br/~fornari/essynth1/essynth1.pdf

I wish the examples didn't seem so dependent on random evolution and
glitch-music though. Almost all the online examples state white noise as
the "Target" for the evolutions; seems a little limiting from a musical
point of view.

I think I know the guy, Fornari. He was a couple of years ahead of me
in the Uni, I think in Electric Engineering, and a jazz pianist too. The
group there seems to have had interest in chaotic systems for a good
while. This is a by-the-by, anyway... sorry for the noise.

Agreed. The sound samples seem to confirm my intuition- that it's not
so much a new method of sound production as a new method for choosing
between sounds. That means Csound already has the capability, but it
hasn't been consolidated in a few opcodes.

I was also unable to download the Pd patch, bummer.

I thought of that when I saw where he was from. Small world.
