Ciao, I'm working with a simple instrument that read an audio file via Gen 1. I use a negative gen number (-1) 'cause i want use the original amplitude of sample. The question is : if i use a positive gen num. the amplitude will rescaled in range 0-1, BUT there will be some loss in signal quality ? Or not ? Again, if i don't need this rescaling, is it better don't use it ? Thanks and ciao, fran. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/GEN-1-little-curiosity-tp24268678p24268678.html Sent from the Csound - General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hi Fran, Giving +1 as gen number will also normalize each audio file so that sounds that were recorded at a low level will be boosted with respect to ones recorded at a higher level. Using +1 you can match audio of different bit depths. Most audiophile engineers will argue that normalization causes degradation of the signal and should be avoided. Working at higher bit depths in the first place will minimize any issues.
