[Csnd] Skarnsundet Bridge composition

Subject[Csnd] Skarnsundet Bridge composition
Hello friends,
here's my composition on the bridge that I've been talking about
earlier, fresh out of mastering this morning.

http://soundcloud.com/brandtsegg/skarnsundet-bru-2011

It is a composition on source recordings from Skarnsundet bridge. The
beautiful architecture of the stayed cable bridge informs formal
aspects of the composition, and the dispersive quality of the cables
is a main timbral theme. Special microphones based on accelerometers
were used to capture the ultra-low frequencies of the cables. The
composition is part of a pilot project for a larger permanent sound
and light installation that I'm working on in collaboration with
visual artist Viel Bjerkeset Andersen. This will hopefully be ready
autumn 2013. The art project on the bridge was initiated by the
municipalities of Inderøy and Mosvik, merging into one municipality on
January 1st 2012.
Csound is of course the tool with which this was made. I used pvs
techniques, partikkel, and single sideband modulation.

Happy Holidays Oeyvind and all,

IMHO... Beautifully done... Very interesting and original sounds and the
architecture (form) is quite clear and well thought out. Love the
organ-like melos near the end.

Congratulations!!

Michael

Thanks all for the positive feedback.

Michael, the organ-like sounds towards the end was made by doing
single sideband modulation on dry recordings of the cables. The idea
was to lift the cable's spectrum up into the audible range. Most of
what we hear is he modulation oscillator pitch, but the fluctuations
in the cable recording modulates the tones. The dispersion in the
cable creates the sweeping effect in this manner.

Rory, the full installation is not ready yet :-) I hope it will be by
autumn 2013.
Here's some images of the bridge (just googled "skarnsundbrua photos")

Again thanks
best
Oeyvind
