Hello,

I have just moved from Edmonds to New York metropolitan area, after many
years, things look quite different in the city and the sorroundings.

I know of Michael Gogins' Csound meetings on the first Thursday of the
month... and I would like to participate(?).

I have my hown web-site, (not completely
finished) with music/videos and digital paintings. Comments and questions
are welcome (off the list).

Best regards,

--Sal

Hi Brad,

Thank you for your comments.

Regarding the two "Visions" excerpts not playing on linux, I can only
say that: the format of all the excerpts are the same, they are QuickTime
as well MPEG-4,the entire production was done on a Mac G4, Csound and
Final Cut Pro. On a Window with XP I needed to download Safari and
QuickTime and it worked fine. Please let me know if you find a solution
with linux.

Regarding the software used for my compositions:
I use Csound entirely for my pieces and sound editors - Audacity and snd -
to record and edit the original sound, and Soundhack in the nineties.

COMPOSITIONAL METHODS:

My bacground is in percussion and jazz playing free-style be-bop (despite
my DMA in Composition from the University of Washington, Seattle). This
influences my writing style in that the measures and bars do not interfere
with the music flow. Rather, the sound objects I compose, be it synthetic
or real, evolve through the speed (as in tempo, not time) to produce a
desired effect in the composition. I prefer phraseology instead of metric
style writing. Also, I like to create computer music with sound objects
that are not traditional instrument sounds. Instead, I manipulate
non-traditional sounds from objects (like a barbeque grill or a truck bed)
to be my instrumental voices.

CREATIVE SIDE:

I write to tell a story using sound to create soundscapes for effect and
impression. One's life experience personalizes their story and through
skills and techniques one's ideas can be developed eloquently. For
example, I'm working on a Music/Video piece, "AL" for Abraham Lincoln,
in which I would like to relate the way I feel about his story with my
life experience.

I also believe that every composer has his own place (and tools) in his
heart and if we meet the right people (teachers or friends) they will
help to make that discovery that we are looking for. We also need to be
equipped with a great deal of patience... and so forth.

Best regards,

--Sal
