In the csound5gui options, there is a check box for 'run
widgets on a separate thread'. Try checking or unchecking it.

i only found a check box in the "Real time audio" tab called "Perform
on a separate thread", are you referring to this?

with the box unchecked the panel stays all white, with the box checked
the panel freezes what was previously in the screen.
