[Csnd] OT: Nasa Voyager Space Sounds

Subject[Csnd] OT: Nasa Voyager Space Sounds

I can't find much info about these recordings, even though I've downloaded these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nasa-Voyager-Space-Sounds/dp/B002N7O39W. I'm wondering if these recordings are obtained by simply putting the signal (which is within audible frequency range) through loudspeakers, or if they are made by mapping out to synthesis parameters. I'm hoping for the former! But then, how much post processing (e.g. noise reduction) has been applied to get to this stage? There is no technical info that I can find form NASA.

Best,
Peiman

There is/was a whole series of recordings published as CDs under the
name "Symphonies of the Planets". Mostly done some 15 years ago. Kim
Cascone has some knowledge of the people who did them.

I have attached a pdf of the CD liner notes I was able to track down,
hopefully it will get through the list filter OK.

I can't recommend these tracks highly enough. Such a pity the page has
to call the sounds "terrifying". I would normally meditate in silence,
but I can meditate with these sounds very easily - maybe precisely
becasue there is zero to minimal "compositional structure" to them;
though it seems far from random. Having recently visited the Samye Ling
Tibetan Buddhist monastery, and heard one of their main rituals start up
(cymbals, trumpets), I can assert those sounds are far more terrifying
than anything Nasa recorded!
