Hello, I'm just curious if anyone here has experimented with Ecasound before. It seems like a powerful DAW without the GUI, which might actually be a blessing at times; but how useable is it for serious editing and mixing? Tinkered with it a little. Didn't seem like anything I'd ever want to use, so I didn't learn it. It got nerve-wracking keeping track of where I was routing audio. Read the manual. It's thorough, but zen in its brevity. That said, it looked to be well-thought-out . . . for what it is. I didn't scratch the proverbial surface of what I could tell was a massively powerful piece of software. PS - I think shell scripts are a very good idea, from what I saw. I've used ecasound hundreds of times for quick recording scenarios. I wrote a custom script that launches it, connects it to JACK, and prepares the recording aspects. It's rock solid, very easy to use, and as Gregg pointed out, massively complex under the surface. It is a "complete" DAW from the command-line, something of great interest to sight-impaired users. My use of it has been simple and satisfying. Some members on the LAU list have used it extensively for their productions, particularly Julien Claassen. I've been very serious about using it, ergo, yes, I consider it software for serious users. :) Best, dp Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe csound" |

Great. Thanks very much for your replies. I will give it a go. I have a feeling that it may be very usefull for creating sections and/or parts of a mix and then put them together in another DAW. I look forward to trying it out! Best, Peiman On 9 May 2010 14:14, Dave Phillips <dlphillips@woh.rr.com> wrote:

There's also Nama, wich is kind of like an abstraction layer on top of ecasound: http://ecmdr.infogami.com/ I've never used any of them, but i've always thought they were a really good idea. fran lópez http://www.franlopez.net/ 2010/5/10 peiman khosravi <peimankhosravi@gmail.com> Great.
