Dear Csounders,

I am happy to present to you my book /Pionniers de la musique numérique/
(Pioneers of Digital Music). This is in french, but all original english
citations have been kept. Currently available by the publisher website, and
soon by Amazon and other booksellers.

http://www.editions-delatour.com/fr/musicologie-analyses/1802-pionniers-de-la-musique-numerique-9782752101259.html

ABSTRACT: Digital sound, invented in 1957, is not limited to a set of
techniques designed by engineers for telecommunication and broadcasting. A
significant creative dimension goes along with the development of sound
synthesis and digitization techniques, through the interest in music and the
arts showed by pioneers both engineers, musicians and, sometimes,
professional composers. The book follows this musical and artistic
breadcrumb trail through a cursus of more than 160 experimental pieces and
works, each one exhaustively described.

This reference book can be used in various ways: it can be read continuously
as a narrative history, consulted for specific information with its
catalogs, index, bibliography, discography and notes, or examined through
its many musical analysis. Developed according to an overall approach, it
can meet the needs of students, musicologists, practitioners of sound
synthesis, multimedia artists ... or any reader wishing to discover the
fascinating reports that digital technology and music began to exchange more
than a half-century ago.

Foreword by Marc Battier

BIO: Olivier Baudouin is musicologist, doctor of the Sorbonne and a Research
Associate in the Musique, Informatique et Nouvelles Technologies laboratory
of the Observatoire Musical Français. His work focuses on the history and
analysis of electroacoustic music, and more specifically on the techniques
of synthesis and composition of sound, preservation of digital heritage and
the relationship between music, art and technology.
