[Csnd] New piece, was: Max4Live and Csound

Subject[Csnd] New piece, was: Max4Live and Csound
Hello

I am working on this piece, using MaxForLive. The Live device is
called "Hadron Particle Synthesizer", and it uses Davis Pyon's csound~
in M4L. The Csound orchestra is build around the partikkel opcode,
with an extended modulation routing done with modmatrix. The Csound
orchestra (as a standalone, does not need Live) and the M4L device
will be released *soon*. Until then, I'd be happy to get comments on
the (rather long-ish) piece "Magnetic Forest", made with three
instances of the Hadron device.

I've attempted to do some gestural counterpoint between the three
different voices. The basic material was improvised live using a midi
controller to play the Hadron, three such improvised takes were made.
This basic material was then juxtaposed and edited. This was done in
an iterative work process, where I would listen to the whole piece and
take notes, then do editing, then listen to the whole piece again.
I plan to do a final mix in PT, also trying out some other reverbs.

It surely has a good ending. Interesting how this seems to stand in
the cross-roads of fixed-medium and improvised music. At points it has
the typical movement of the latter, but it also feels quite planned,
especially when we consider the overall evolution. It keeps the
attention of the listener well through the most challenging parts. It
is a difficult thing to do, a 20-min piece (I never managed it myself).

Highlights for me are the build-up to 10'04" and subsequent transition
out of it; the section starting at about 15' with use of recognisable
percussion instrument sounds (it's the free-jazz person in me speaking
now) in dialogue with the more 'electronic sounds'.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Marc,

The partikkel opcode is available with standard Csound, partikkel.dll
should reside in your plugins64 (or plugins) directory.
The site for Hadron is under construction and there is no downloads
available yet, the device will be released soon. I'll let you know :-)

Thanks for sharing your music to the list. It's very nice to hear what csounders do and to keep track on your musical ideas. I very much appreciated your music.
The same also to Victor's music!
Thank you!

Hey Oeyvind,

Very cool piece, had a listen this morning. Love the fast movement and fragmentation with the smooth sounds in the middle, a good interplay between stable and chaotic sounds. It's quite interesting to hear how incredibly different the sound you are getting from partikkel is to the one I am. I'll post some samples when I get around to doing Sound Cloud, would be an interesting comparison.

Excited to see the Hadron device!

Thanks for the feedback on the piece.

As Victor said, yes it is quite long. It was originally even longer, I
managed to cut down some 7 minutes or so from the first draft edit. I
found it interesting to work on this piece because it was a new type
of composition process for me. Instead of building from the ground
adding bit by bit, instead I started with a big chunk of material and
cutting things out and refining it.

I'll be eagerly waiting to hear what you do with partikkel, Jeremy.
