[Csnd] Max4Live and Csound

Subject[Csnd] Max4Live and Csound
I am on a Mac (10.5.8) and have Ableton 8. I am wanting to get
Max4Live and then start using CSound in Max4Live. Is this all working
perfectly. Have there been any issues with getting these to work with
each other? Can't wait to test this out.

Next I am going to rewire Ableton to Logic, then I will be able to use
all the capabilities of Logic, Ableton, and Max and Csound under one
roof. Possibilities sound endless then. Super excited.

Apparently, yes. Oeyvind Brandtsegg showed me his stuff with
partikkel, which worked quite well.

It's a real pity that cycling74 decided to discontinue plug-in
compatibility. I don't personally don't find Live very attractive for
studio work.

Nevertheless, I'd be very interested to hear about your experience.
Keep us updated!

I have been using it on Win7, works great!
Live/Max/Csound is a pretty powerful combination.

Subject[Csnd] Re: Re: Re: Max4Live and Csound
With pluggo one could make VST and AU plug-ins out of max4 patches
that could then be used in any vst/au-friendly application (and even
RTAS in protools).

With max5, Cycling74 decided to ditch pluggo and focus all the effort
that went into it on max4live. So pluggo development and support has
been discontinued since max5 came out. That's very unfortunate for
anyone who doesn't wish to move to live (or pay for it), which (let's
face it!) is not really meant as a serious pro studio DAW, as powerful
as it is. That, together with the fact that MaxMsp has never has a
friendly way of dealing with a time-line means that more and more
users are 'forced' to buy live + max4live.

It is these kinds of decisions that make me very sceptical about
commercial software.

Peiman

Just to chime in, I am using Oeyvind Brandtsegg's Partikkel, as well as a multi-effects processor orc I wrote inside of Live using Davis Pyon's Csound~ object.

Things are working pretty well, and I do find it a great workflow for me personally.

Peiman, I hear what you are saying regarding Pluggo. For my uses, Max for Live is a better solution, but a more universal format would perhaps be a further reaching solution. It is a shame they couldn't do both, and I can imagine feeling a bit stranded had I made a lot of stuff in Pluggo. I generally end up composing in Live, then bouncing stems to Logic or Pro Tools to make my final mix.

Thanks for the info Jeremy.

I am wandering if I won't be the next paying victim to Live :-) How does it work in terms of automating parameters? Is there an automation track for every max controller inside live?

Thanks

No problem.

Yeah, I was slightly questioning buying the whole package, but I did it anyway.

Basically, once you enable a parameter (either a Pattr or Live object), you can automate it as you would any other parameter.  It is quite intuitive.

Looking at the new Cecilia however it seems a lot of this functionality could be implemented there.... I'm looking forward to playing with that when I get the chance.

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the info Jeremy. I've downloaded the trail version of live with live4max and I have to say it looks much better than I thought. It is true that it is much more user-friendly than pluggo and very well integrated. So I will be investing in it!

At the moment the only commercial software I have installed and use is Max and I can see that max4live will be a very good addition to it.

Best,

PS I would very interested to hear/try your csound~ devices.

Excellent, I do think it's worth doing, and provides a good alternative to working mostly in code. Interested to see what you do.

I will be posting some samples soon - I will send you my two devices, though to be honest they are in a pretty rough state, but it might be interesting to see how I implemented things.

Best,

Peiman

PS I would very interested to hear/try your csound~ devices.

I am wandering if I won't be the next paying victim to Live :-) How does it work in terms of automating parameters? Is there an automation track for every max controller inside live?

Thanks

With pluggo one could make VST and AU plug-ins out of max4 patches that could then be used in any vst/au-friendly application (and even RTAS in protools).

With max5, Cycling74 decided to ditch pluggo and focus all the effort that went into it on max4live. So pluggo development and support has been discontinued since max5 came out. That's very unfortunate for anyone who doesn't wish to move to live (or pay for it), which (let's face it!) is not really meant as a serious pro studio DAW, as powerful as it is. That, together with the fact that MaxMsp has never has a friendly way of dealing with a time-line means that more and more users are 'forced' to buy live + max4live.

It is these kinds of decisions that make me very sceptical about commercial software.

Peiman

What do you mean re: discontinuing plug-in compatibility?

It's a real pity that cycling74 decided to discontinue plug-in compatibility. I don't personally don't find Live very attractive for studio work.

Nevertheless, I'd be very interested to hear about your experience. Keep us updated!
