I think, from what I know of Variax's, that the system is set-up to
send signal thru for modelling and MIDI is not part of the scheme.
Why not I'm not sure. But, there's not a whole lot of space left
inside for extra MIDI circuitry.

Variax models other guitars, dial in a Les Paul and it sounds like
a Les Paul. Same with the Ricki, and I own a Ricki, so I know how
close it is. Each string has its own piezo and goes thru a Cat5 cable,
or a 1/4" phone (TRS) with DC-Passing to supply active circuits in
the Variax guitar.

The Effects boxes model know brand name effects, the amps model
other brand name amps.

But now you've got me intrigued with the idea of your Split Side Band
and this ModFM as an effect. I'll have to go back to re-reading Dr. B's
book on real time effects again. I always seem to have a need to go
back to that chapter. SpSB and ModFM would be an interesting effect.
I'll have to see about running a guitar into my laptop and Csound,
with you FM idea as a real time effect.

Now you've got me thinking,... hmmmm.

Cheers,
-Partev ?~:-)

It's actually a hexa-piezo pickup (RMC) on a Godin. I don't have a
MIDI converter, so I have not used very often (but I borrowed a roland
one once to check it worked and it did, quite well actually). I have
not looked too closely at the variax, but my impression was that its
piezo was six-way split and each string separately processed (I
wondered also why it did not give you a pitch-to-midi option, but
we're getting way into an OT post here, so I'll stop).

But can you actually pick up each string separately? If so, then look
at the "adaptive" sections of the paper; they would do a good guitar
"synth-like" effect. FM for the guitar.
