I have an Edirol UA-25EX that I use both with Eeebuntu Linux and with
Windows XP. It sounds better than the builtin sound cards (and sounds fine)
in both uses.

However, the Linux driver only supports CD quality or 48 KHz audio. There
are a number of settings that work only in high-resolution mode. I wonder if
they would interfere with the sound when using the device with Linux. You
might want to check all the little switches and make sure they are correct
for your use.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Thanks guys. Installing the latest realtime kernel took care of my
problems. In researching the problem I came across a lot of threads
regarding the settings of each of the switches at the back of the
card, the best resource can be found here:

Hey Rory,

Did you patch the kernel with the realtime patch or this is not necessary anymore? I'm confused because I got conflicting suggestions about how to get low latency with recent kernel versions.

cheers
Bernardo

I think if you're using a relatively new version of Ubuntu it's
already done. It wasn't patched with my version 8.04. If you try

sudo apt-get install linux-rt linux-headers-rt

it should tell you whether the patch has already been applied?

Decent realtime kernels are available for Ubuntu 10.04, the Lucid Lynx
release. I'm using them on a laptop and on a desktop box, with excellent
performance from both machines. Btw, I'm not running the Ubuntu Studio
system, just plain 10.04 with a realtime kernel.

Best,

I never bothered with the Ubuntu Studio either. I find nothing wrong
with the normal distro.
