Burial is nice. "Not thrilling, but nice" the british magazine the Wire named his record the best of last year. It's okay, nothing to freak about IMHO. They are contributing to people at least giving it a listen, though. But yeah, sometime i listen to what is touted as the next big thing and wonder if they'd like to hear some of my csound scores from the summer of 94. pp Patrick Pagano,M.F.A Sound and Light Technologist Nadine McGuire Theatre & Dance Pavilion GAINESVILLE FL US 32611-5900 University Of Florida (352) 273-1483 |

No reflection, but: I have a funny feeling myself about Wire. A long time ago (in a galaxy...) I had a brief moment of fame when I published via Oxford University Press a "Dictionary of electronic and computer music instruments". Strictly a reference book, to complement the much bigger book on instruments by Anthony Baines. Mostly good reviews too. They charged too much so students couldn't afford it. Cancelled the photographs. Never went into paperback. No royalties. Bits of it are quoted on the EARS website (www.ears.dmu.ac.uk). Wire gave a review, in which they roundly critcised it/me for "making no attempt" to discuss the moral/political/sociocultural issues around the use of electronic instruments. It seems to them ~everything~ has to be a "think piece"; possibly full of oblique rive-gauche Derrida references (or perhaps to dubstep and noise floor). I almost wrote them a letter saying "well, it's a dictionary...". Richard Dobson |

That is genuinely humourous. the term "noisefloor" is mine as far as i'm aware. Maybe i'd better sharpen my rive-gauche & get scribbling.... Richard Dobson wrote: > > > excellent!
