I was getting a lot of bogus registrations that didn't seem to do anything so became concerned about malware and took down the site.

I'd like to hear from anyone who was actually using the site.

Mike

Stefan, could you explain more how you would like to do this ear-training? I do not plan to revive the csound-showcase site, but maybe I can help you set something else up, if I understand better how you want it to work. Right now, these are the options that I see for making Csound available for student works on the Web:
1. There is https://ide.csound.com/, but I can't seem to get it to work. Inspecting the page seems to show a number of bugs.
2. Steven Yi's https://live.csound.com/ definitely works well, but there are no user registrations. It's designed for live coding. You paste in your Csound code and run it. However, it seems to have a special .orc file that it always runs. You can add your own code, but not replace the existing code. So that might not be ideal.
3. There is https://csound.com/learn-csound-site/, but this is now five years old. You can paste any old Csound code in place of "Trapped in Convert," but it doesn't seem very performant.
4. You can use my "playable" version of the Csound Reference Manual. Any of the opcode examples can be run in the browser using Csound for WebAssembly, e.g. https://gogins.github.io/csound-extended/html/examples/deltap3.csd.html. You can simply paste in your own piece over the code for the opcode example, and it will run just fine. This uses an up to date build of Csound for WebAssembly.
Without user registrations and on online database, your students can run things in the browser, but of course they would have to email .csd files back and forth with you.

Regards,
Mike

If you don't need user registrations, I will create another page like this that is clearly designed for rendering any old .csd file.

An OT question: is this supposed to work on Firefox? Because I tried it on
Firefox 74.0 (Linux), and I get no sound. (It works on Chrome).

But I've been having problems with audio on Firefox on other sites (not
regular YouTube videos and things like that, but sites like soundslice and
others).

Any ideas for troubleshooting?

Hi,

I had the same issues on the one or other ubuntu installation. What helped, was installing additional restricted codecs. Some things are not in the official packages due to patent reasons.

In my case, this one helped:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

I don't know which distribution you use, so use this merely as a pointer for additional studies...

Best,

Yes. I tried this yesterday and it did not work for me. I tried it today, and it worked fine. I see a number of recent commits by hlolli and that is probably why. Thanks!

Because there are user registrations and code is stored online, I think this is the best choice for Stefan Thomas right now.

I found that Firefox on Ubuntu would not play any audio. I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras and that did not help.

As it happens, I normally disable pulseaudio and use only alsa. When I turned the pulseaudio daemon back on, I got audio both from YouTube on Firefox and from my minimal example on Firefox.

SubjectRe: [Csnd] can't reach csound showcase
Dear all,
thanks for You hints, I will look at theses sides.
What I have in mind in with ear-training is the following:
the student shall recognize if an interval is in tempered, pyhagorean or natural tuning, or maybee simply out of tune. I hope, it will be possible, that csound can recognize the answer by the student. I will try to figure it out.

Yes. I tried this yesterday and it did not work for me. I tried it today, and it worked fine. I see a number of recent commits by hlolli and that is probably why. Thanks!

Because there are user registrations and code is stored online, I think this is the best choice for Stefan Thomas right now.

Regards,
Mike

How could I forget this one? There is https://gogins.github.io/csound-extended/minimal.html. You can paste your own code in place of Xanadu and it will play just fine. If you don't need user registrations, I will create another page like this that is clearly designed for rendering any old .csd file.

But again, please let us know how you plan to use an online facility with Csound for ear-training.

Mike

Dear community,
I've tried those different possibilities using csound via browser and I assume the csound web-ide is very useful for my purposes.
Is there the possibility to use the FLTK-opcodes or something like widgets as we know from csoundqt?
Thanks for Your help,
Stefan

@Stefan soon we'll have support for html widgets, of course if you know modern js/css/html well, there's nothing stopping your from including csound wasm in your own website and connect html sliders and elements to the csound-api channel mechanism.
