Here's my first take at an answer to Tobiah's challenge. I posted the score, preprocessor input, and MP3 of it to my weblog at http://bumpermusic.blogspot.com/2009/04/sines.html It's a work in process, so far 87 seconds in one key. It sounds kind of like my other music, in 53 tone to the octave, based on semi-just intonation to the 11 limit. I used the preprocessor I use for all my other work, modified to use Tobiah's pfields. Turbo Pascal circa 1989 was used to modify the preprocessor. Still moves the bits around just fine for me... Prent Rodgers |

Is there something preventing this? It would be great if people could just drop scores into their 'contest'? directory without worrying about different orchestras. I know that you may provide a link to the audio output, but since the idea has taken on some air of competition, some may wish to find the proof in the pudding, and render entry scores on their own machine. There was a small amount of discussion on the csound site. Basically, the orchestra, while leaving something to be desired in some ways, stands as the synthesis portal to this challenge. May 1st is the submission deadline. Tobiah |

It's somewhat memorable, as it still dances among my keystrokes as I type this, now that the piece has finished playing. Thanks for playing! Tobiah |

Prent, Thanks very much for sharing your interesting piece! Is your 53-note scale a "custom" one? At first, I thought you meant 53-tone ET which gives good aproximations of many just intervals, but I see from your score that you define the scale with intervals. So, I'm guessing its a custom selection of just intervals. Any method to your madness for constructing the scale? It was very interesting to see the input format of your score processor. It looks fascinating -- hard to tell if it would be something other JI composers would find helpful. Could you comment on that? Have you ever thought about releasing your Pascal code? Thanks! I can empathize since I clung until late last year to an "obsolete" operating system from 1999 -- Mac OS 9. I did feel it necessary to maintain Csound for that OS though until I finally gave it up.
