I saw an interview of him on TV. Wikipedia is wrong. 
He said that he that his born name is Nicolas Coppola, that 
Francis Ford Coppola is his Uncle, Sofia Coppola (actress and director)
is his cousin and that he changed it to Cage for two reasons,
1- not to commercialize on the Coppola name and make it on his own merits.
2- John Cage is his favourite composer.

Wikipedia got it wrong, I saw the TV interview, it was a late night talk
show, don't remember which one though.

"I do like all the music you mentioned"- 
Cool,... it showed.
