[Csnd] ANNOUNCEMENT: Csound 5.18.02 for Windows has been released

Date2012-09-09 21:02
FromMichael Gogins
Subject[Csnd] ANNOUNCEMENT: Csound 5.18.02 for Windows has been released
I have uploaded the Windows installer for Csound version 5.18.02 to
SourceForge at:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound/files/csound5/csound5.18/Csound5.18-gnu-win32-d.exe/download.

This release includes the following changes:

(1) CsoundQt-Python is not included in this release, because I was not
able to build PythonQt.

(2) However, regular CsoundQt has been upgraded to the head version
and seems to work fine.

(3) Cabbage by Rory Walsh is now included by default. It can be used
to run Csound orchestras with graphical user interfaces, or to export
them as VST instrument or effect plugins. Note that Cabbage sources
are available from Google Code. I feel that Cabbage will prove a very
useful addition to the Csound toolkit, especially for those who prefer
to work in an audio workstation or notation environment. (CsoundVST is
still available from my personal Web site at
http://michae-gogins.com.)

(4) FLTK has been changed from version 1.1 to version 1.3 head.

(5) In general, all third party dependencies have been upgraded to
their most recent usable versions.

(5) Csound itself and many third party dependencies have been compiled
using MinGW/GCC version 4.6.2.

(6) A variety of changes and bug fixes have been made to CsoundAC,
primarily to assist in writing algorithmic compositions in C++ for
Csound rendering. In particular, a more correct version of chord space
operations has been implemented in the ChordSpace class. There are
also improvements in the convenience functions for rendering, and
especially in MIDI file import and export.

(7) A bug was reported that libiconv-2 was not installed. I believe
that I have rebuilt the FluidSynth DLL so that this library is no
longer required.

(8) The "How to Build Csound on Windows" document in GIT has been
updated to reflect the building of this release.

Please report any problems or requests to the developer's list.

Enjoy,
Mike Gogins

Thanks for all the hard work, Michael!

In preliminary testing, it's running fine here (Win7 Home Premium 64-bit).

Yes, I built it, and it runs, but I did not include it in the
installer. I can add it, if you like.

It should be added because it is the "only" front-end for Csound that works with (JAWS) "screen-reader" software for the blind.

Hello,

Micheal, please could you explain a bit about:

Sounds very interesting! As I have understood, CsoundAC used to base on
python, am I correct? how can C++ be used now? Can you provide some examples
or point to documentation?

thanks!

SubjectRe: [Csnd] ANNOUNCEMENT: Csound 5.18.02 for Windows has been released
CsoundAC consists of the following layers:

[1] Csound API (C++ version in CppSound.hpp).
[2] On top of that, CsoundAC C++ class library, which implements all
the compositional algorithms.
On top of that, wrappers for various other languages: [3a] Python,
[3b] Lua, [3c] Java.

So, to use Csound AC from C++, you just link with layer [2] above.

I have written an article about how to do this which should appear in
an upcoming Csound Journal.

This is how I do my own composing now, since the pieces generate and
render faster this way.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Thank you for the installer. CsoundQt is looking good and there don't
seem to be any missing libraries when running from the command line
anymore. Unfortunately, none of the buttons that send score events
are working for me in CsoundQt's example synths (i.e. the "Note"
button in the "Additive Synth" example). Is anybody else having this
issue?

Hi,

Strange, it's working for me on Linux with current git. Anyone else
experiencing this?

Maybe you've got "Disable realtime score events" checked in the preferences?

Cheers,

Good to hear. But then the question is whether you checked it, or
whether it is checked by default. I just checked the sources and it
shouldn't be, but may be something left over from existing
installations.

SubjectRe: [Cs-dev] ANNOUNCEMENT: Csound 5.18.02 for Windows has been released
I was not aware of the setting and I do not recall checking it myself.
It appears to have checked itself when 5.18 was installed.

tested it fully, but so far it's working like a polished 1.0 release!

Cheers,
